plants vs JD so i just got my 55 gal set up, cycled and put the fish in and i want to put some plants in it. i would like a BIG grassy plain, amano style look. i want to do this as ground cover: AquaticMagic Im already buying like 30dollars worth of plants from here so i would like to order from here and have it in the shippment. my question is, will my JD, placo, or pictus bother this plant? i am also gonna have some sort of anubias on some rocks every so often. thanks! |
Well JDs will usually uproot plants. I don't have experience with JDs or plecos with plants but they are fish that get fairly big and can therefore get fairly messy. I would personally re-think the ground cover myself: you might end up wasting $$? |
ok ty, thats what i was thinking to. ill just stick to nothing. |
Uhm not only would the JD possibly uproot plants - But what you've posted there is a moss, so you'd need to tie it down somehow in a way, shape, form to not only have it form a carpet and not drift upwards but also somehow JD safe.... Had you considered Hairgrass? It will grow to about +/-1" but it roots down fairly quick (compared to other plants used for carpets) and possibly would withstand the JD better then moss? |
i bought some hairgrass (2 pots) from awuariumplants. the last experience i had with them wasnt good so im hoping this one is better. here is what i ordered for the other tank: Items Ordered: Price: Status: 1 of : Cabomba Purple (Red)(Cabomba pulcherrima) $1.97 Processing 2 of : Dwarf Hairgrass (Eleocharis acicularis) pot $7.46 Processing 1 of : Ludwigia, Narrow Leaf(Ludwigia palustris) $2.08 Processing 1 of : Pennywort, Brazilian (Hydrocotyle Leucocephala)(6-8 stems)(8"-10" tall) $2.52 Processing 2 of : Sword,Ozelot Sword (Echinodorus 'ozelot')potted) $7.46 Processing 1 of : Tiger Lotus, Red (Nymphaea zenkeri) $5.49 Processing |
Oh that's right down my alley of plant orders - NICE choice!!! I LOVE the Ludwigia & Tiger Lotus (had you seen my Tiger picture on here?) That's odd with your Hairgrass there :-? do you maybe have too little lights (not going down far enough in a large tank)? Now on the Pennywort I think you seen my thread here...so just watch it over taking your tank  |
i meant i have had bad experience with aquariumplants.com the last time i bought there 90% of the plants were dead, i managed to salvage 2 contortion vals and a petite nana out of 5 plants i ordered (contortion vals come in groups of like 10). |
I didn't wanna say nothing at first...but I did find your new order pricey as well (thou I donno this place quality) I have order here 2x Sweet Aquatics and I love the quality and the pricing there (and so far always got free shipping too) and all plants I got there so far are doing great. |
the only thing i found particularly expensive was the tiger lotus, which i think is reasonable because of its avaibility and rarity. |
You find a Red Tiger Lotus rare? I had never any problems finding it so far, guess I just got lucky. |
