i have a 12.5 gallon tank with an aquaclear 20 filter. Once it is finished cycling i hope to add 6 cherry barbs, then 3 platies, then a fancy guppy. will this work out.

Do you have a test kit to test your water and post us your water parameters? Some fish like hard water others soft - so whatever water you have this may or may not be a good idea.
Either case, I'd def not recommend Cherry barb's for your tank as they'll grow about 3" and shouldn't be kep in no smaller tank then a 20g. Platy & Guppy if you get only males or only females yes. Otherwise if you getting couples and will deal with fry REAL quick this small tank would be overstocked before Christmas, so I really can't suggest having couples there, only buy yourself gals OR guys.

i don't have a test of hardness but my ph is around 7. The temperature is around 25 celsius.
Really, i never knew cherrys got so big. Online it says most stay between 1-2 inches.

Also if the platies did have fry, and it was way to much what would you recommend i do with them?

Also again i was only planing on getting one fancy guppy, would it be alright on its own?

Yea they get pretty big, I'd really not suggest that. Just get a hardness test next time you're around the pet store, API sells them individually too and they're cheap - buying "wrong" fish and having them die on you is def more expensive :-)
I'd never recommend 1 spices 1 alone, but in your case its DEF better then dealing with fry. And for the Platy fry...well you can HOPE your LSF will take them for you...otherwsie well then uhm try sell them on here or aquabid, but they're sooo common that even given them away for free don't help anyone take them.
