I just noticed today that my Black Moor Goldfish (Sylvester) is lying on his face in the gravel in one corner. He swims around occasionally and goes back to the same spot in the same position. What do I do?
Not sure how old your goldfish is. It does sound as if he is sick, but I would not guess at diseases. Continue to change his water; water changes always help with illness. Stop feeding him for a while if you still are feeding. It may be that he is constipated.
I did start with goldfish and had several problems with them becoming constipated.
Once I found tropicalfishkeeping when I wanted to learn how to care for tropical fish, I discovered that goldfish are one of the more difficult fish to care for. They also need a lot of room to grow.
test tank water, test source water, post results.large water changes for goldies weekly 60% with gravel vacs.same temp dechlorinated water.feed peas for constipation.keep feeding peas only, until green feces show up.then feed quality soaked pellets and supplement with peas 3-4 times weekly to keep intestines clear.clean water is the best medicine.
i stay away from gold fish for several reasons, size mostly, temperatures are so-so, more concerned with size, ... i don't get tanks big enough for larger fish, the goldfish grew, ... ate all my tetras :sob:
then i looked into how large they get, ... wow, that's like a 12" fish, no wonder they kept growing so fast
