Sponge v.s. Sump......
ok so as many know i rack my head full of ideas and then get thinking a little to much LOL... so here i am getting ready to move and in the new place i want to set up a stand with multiple tanks.. the decision has been made to go with Betta's and i am gong to house 2-3 in divided 10 gal tanks... about 4-8 tanks depending on space and availability at the time (fish room wont be ready till mid summer at earliest). now filtration comes to mind i found a cool set up for a Betta drip system but i am using real tanks and want to modify the design to include overflow boxes in stead of drilling.... on the other hand i know the little guys dont care for a ton of flow so i was thinking run each fish his own sponge filter and get a single air pump to run them all.... down side is of course heaters.. with air i need to heat each tank with sump i have one filter and only two heaters in the sump.... soooo how about some in put....
I'd honestly buy a large air pump that allows you how many ever hook up's you need and buy the normal sponge filters, the small one's.
Simple reasoning why I'd do this (apart from loving sponge filters that is lol): If you have 1 sump and connected all your tanks to 1 - that then means 1 sick fish can easily transfer it to ALL other tanks on the same line - For my taste & nerve system that would not fly by me :-)
Oh hey...thinking about it the 2nd time around..when I was at the store today I seen these while also looking for sponge filters - They may actually work better for the kinda set up you wanna do, decide for yourself Penn Plax Small World Filter at PETCO
yeah i like them but its just a lot cheaper to make my own sponge filters....still wanna lot of feed back i have time but i want to start getting components as i go along ...
Whatever you wind up building in the end: Just built it already now with the thought of adding 5 more later on...and even then I'm sure you'll outgrow that too :-)
