35 gal stocking question
My 35 gallon has 2 bolivian rams, 2 panda cories, 3 ottos, 1 angel and 1 flame dwarf gourami. It is fully stocked or can I add something else?? If I can add something, I would like something for top/middle with some color. Would love some suggestions....................
What you need most is more of some of what you have, though with reservations.
Corydoras should (=must) be in groups, I would say five or more, same or different species will work, but some species do have a preference for their own, and pandas are one of these. I have 3 pandas (plus 15 corys of a couple other species) in my 90g and the pandas are almost always together, nudging each other and scurrying around in a little trio. Two or three more panda would be very good and ensure better health for them.
Angels also should be in groups, they are shoaling fish and social, but in a 35g I hate to suggest it. If it were me, I would only have them in a larger tank (55g minimum) so I could have 5 or more.
I would agree some small shoaling fish for the upper layers would be nice, but with what you've got I again have doubts in a 35g, unless it is well planted.
So what I'd do if I had this tank:
Give away/ trade the Angel
Stock Cory to at least 8, pers I'd do 10
And give the Gourami a hubby/ wife
So then you'd have 2 rams, 2 gourami, 8 cory and your 3 otos
Alternatively I'd trade Angel & Gourami and get a small group of upper level fish (something comfi enough in a group of max 5). But without knowing your existing water parameters I can't make proper suggestions there
I put all my fish (cories, guppies, platies, ottos, 14 fish +fry ) in the 72 gallon with the plan of adding something for birth control but was unable to handle the babies being lunch. In the meantime I stocked the 35 gal with 2 bolivian rams, 1 flame dwarf gourami, 1 angel because I was using it as a q tank until I transferred them into the 72 gal tank. Once I decided I could not do it I left them in the 35.
Since I now have the big fish in the 35 gallon and the small fish in the 72 gallon, I think I should switch them by transferring tank inhabitants. After putting the rams, angel and dg in the bigger tank I will have more options.
Absolutely if you have a 72g that is not already overstocked, put the Angel in there!!! He/ She will be very tankful for that.
Maybe you want to post what's in each tank here and all toegther we can come up with a ideal set up who should live where?
For the Guppy fry...I had to say this, but if they get too many, scoop them up and let them loose in your 72g tank....cause they WILL have more baby's then you or your 32g can handle.
72 gallon tank has 5 green cories, 3 platies, 3 ottos, 6 neon tetras, 7 guppies + fry.
35 gallon tank has 2 panda cories, 3 ottos, 2 bolivian rams, 1 flame dwarf gourami, 1 angel.
I initially planned to put the rams in with the 72, I put them in the 35 gallon for quarantine and then had a hard time watching the babies become lunch so I left them there and added the dg and angel.
I have listed the guppy fry on craigslist as free give aways before and will do it again once they are bigger.
Both tanks are fully cycled and the water params are equal, 0 nitrites, 0 ammonia, 10 nitrate, ph 7.0
