hi, my grandma has a small pond and she wants to put some fish in it.
its about id say small sized, like 300gal maybe.
we live in Washington so there are racoons and snow
what would she need for it to be a succesful pond?
there are lots of trees covering it so there will be lots of leaves
she is willing to cover it with mesh
there can be a filter
she doesnt really care what fish, as long as you can see them.
it might freeze over a few cm but nothing serious, she will be able to break the ice.
so could someone tell me if this is even posible and if so what exactly could i do or what would i need to do? what fish ect.
Ok for the pond it is perfectly ok if the pond just freeze on top not the bottom. The fish has to be koi or goldfish, that i know of. NO TROPICAL FISH. Yes you would need a filter and a powerful one at that. You would also need a waterfall to keep the water circulating and oxygenating the water. Yes you would have to cover the top with mesh to keep them out.
If you want more info just ask :D.
hmmmm, could i build a waterfall? like a powerful pump and a rock wall with pvc? DIY filter? what are some good filters, she doesnt want to spend near $100 dollars (u know how grandmas are)
Yes that would be great but unless you could find deals and stuff the pump would cost you around 60-100 dollars and then you would have to make all that other stuff. So it would cost more than $100 to make on. But remember it has to be a strong one!
