- - ph lowering (http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/freshwater-tropical-fish/ph-lowering-33212/)
is your ph to high? is your water to alkaline? here is the solution for under $20
Marksfish - Peat Filtering
this seriously works, my only question is, is it toxic to the fish?
Almond leaves, oak leaves and alder cones can also lower your Ph to the point of having water suitable for the softwater fish.......I would also advise to perform tests in a seperate container till you get the combo of softening agents per gallon of water correct for your needs...........Check your hardness for awhile to make sure it has become stable enough for the fish you would like to keep
