Cichlids Eating Mealworms!?
Ok, well last night i was with my friend And i was playing X Box. I got up to feed my gecko's and looked into my breeding container for my mealworms. I said "Wow, what am i going to do with all these?" He replied "I know!" As he took a mealworm, than ran over to my 55 gallon convict cichlid tank and dropped it in. My largest female took it immediately and gobbled it up. Does anyone know if this could hurt her? She doesnt seem any different, so i dont think anything's wrong. I'm just a little freaked out cuz ive never heard of fish eating them before! :P
not sure if itll hurt her or not, maybe look up some info on the digestive tracs of convict cichlids, i belive the short tracks are plant eaters and the long tracks are meat eaters but that may be backwards cant remember.
Have fed mealworms to many different species of fish. They aren't harmful but should be offered as treat rather than daily.
OK, thank you! :)
My Cons LOVE mealworms as a weekly goody. usually It doesn't make it to halfway to the bottom before its vanished! For my smaller female and males I cut it in half and drop it down with a feeder claw so the big 7" male wont steal!
I feed my cons meal worms once a week they love them!! [can anyone tell me what fish i can add to my convict tank im new here and can figure out how to start a "thread"
At the top of any forum page, above the list of threads, there's a button that says "New Thread." Clicking this takes you to a screen where you can type out the title of the thread and the first post in it and post it on the forum. Hope that helps!
My Severums ( Gold and Red-spotted ) love mealworms. I have also observed my Clown Loaches chasing each other in order to pinch mealworms from each other.
oscars eat them aswell....my friend has a pair and they go wild for them :):):)
