algae and the mosquito minnow

hi, i have a tank that i have placed next to a window that has had a recent outburst in algae. i am currently researching what kind of algae it is. i read somewhere online that mosquito fish eat algae, is this true? IF so, i currently am housing these minnows in this tank which would mean that i wouldn't necessarily need to feed them anymore because the excess food would only lead to more algae growth? also, I was wondering how to exactly tell when a minnow is pregnant? and ive heard that stress can cause a minnow to miss carry so what would be the best technique in removing a pregnant female and placing it in a breeding tank?

Do you know what kind of mosquito minnow you are talking about? There are lots of different fish called mosquito fish.
