discus growth rate and stocking
i just purchased three 2.5 in pigeon blood x blue turquoise cross discus today. i currently have them in a 55gal with two 5 in angels, a pair of apisto aggasszi, a pair of apisto "cockatoo", 2 guppies, 2 otos, and 3 cardnals.
im thinking that this is going to get pretty crowded, but i was wondering if i took the angels out would it be okay.
I would absolutely take the Angelfish out. They are often much quicker to feed than Discus and young Discus ,may get short changed.
Agree with 1077, and would suggest increasing the cardinals to 7+ and discus to 5 if you can. These are shoaling fish, less stressed and thus healthier in groups.
IMHO, a 55gl is going to be much too small for five adult discus. I also agree the minimum kept when it comes to keeping discus is five. Your discus are 2.5 "? If so, they require multiple feedings throughout the day due to their very high metabolism and to ensure proper growth. How often are you currently feeding them? (I hate to rain on your parade :-() Your fish sound beautiful! And chance to see some pics??
