Finally, my 29G

So I've been here for a little while, got some advice from a few VERY knowledgable people!!! You know who you are, thank you very much!
I had to do a little landscaping today because PetCo sells non-aquatic plants as ... well, aquatic plants.
I unfortunately do NOT remember the names of the new plants I bought, but I'm sure some of you will be able to id them. I have three angelfish, one silver with black stripes (about quarter size? maybe 50 cents now haha), and 2 fully black smaller angels (a bit smaller). I also have 4 red wag platys that have been with me since the beginning. The angels have been with me for about 3 weeks now. The plants are all new except one of the bananas which I had for about 2 weeks, and is sprouting another leaf 8)
The only fake plant is the really big one in the right corner.
I performed a 5 gal water change yesterday and replaced the filter pad. As of a few minutes ago my ammonia is 0, nitrite is 0, ph is 7.2 (or 7.1) and nitrate is ~10.
I have one 17w 24" All Glass T8 8000k , and one 24" eclipse natural daylight (18w?) flourecent in my Eclipse 3 hood. I use nurtafin plant gro once a week as directed on the bottle.
My fish eat frozen blood worms, frozen bb shrimp, and 2 varieties of flakes. I feed them once a day (sometimes twice ), sparingly. I think I read that small angels need to eat twice?
Heres a little crappy video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1Wrhngei54
And some photos:

I'm open to all criticism ;-)

Are you fooling us, are you sure this is your first tank set up???

This looks wonderful! The way you 'transformed' advise into a live tank with the plants & fish - PERFECT I'd have to say, really impressed (and I don't easily get impressed by just "any" tank) :-)

I'm loving it and I'm LOVING you approach to get informed first and act upon it rather then the other way around (like seen so many times).

Your Angels will be just fine fed 1x day. You don't want to overfeed because apart from the fish not needing this much food to begin with you also don't want to create unnecessary waste in your tank.

Did you wanna have IDs of your plants? Do you have a full frontal view picture of the tank (yes I'd like to see more pictures of this tank believe it or not)?

Again I think you really did a wonderful job here, thumps up big time on this one!!!

Thank you Angel! I will be sure to post more pics soon, and try to get a higher quality vid.

I thought I was informed when I started the tank, but of course it turned out I wasn't after I started having problems and found this site. I unfortunately did suffer some losses, so it wasn't as smooth as I would've hoped. The only fish that made it from the beginning were the platys, the first angels couldn't handle it (I couldn't handle them is probably more like it). I'm also still trying to figure out how to get rid of algea, I don't have a lot but it is more than I would like, and cleaning it off myself isn't the most natural approach.

Byron and 1077 were probably the biggest contributers, and I can't thank them enough.

I'm 21, and although my father kept this tank a few years ago its just been standing empty for at least 2 or 3, until I finally decided to bring it back :) So I guess this is my first tank that I've set up on my own. I'm constantly reading threads here, trying to learn from others mistakes or encounters and trying to avoid making my own. We all learn more every day, and I'm planning to stuff my brain to the max hahah ;)

wow ...i cant even find words .....wow ....amazingly beautiful..... nice job!!!!!!!!!!!:)

I still think you did a very excellent job there!
Now algae can be common while cycling a new tank. Do you know what kinda alge it is, is it like a soft green lil 'fure' almost, like lil tiny green hairs?
What lights do you have how long are they on?

And you know what, don't ya ever worry, I had plenty of tanks for many yrs now and I'm still learning new stuff, also other folks permanently 'experiment' with new ideas, new products come out to help us (or not sometimes) so it'll always be an ongoing process. Look at me, I know all about fish for my water prior to our move hadn't had no issues with any of the tank and now here after the move I have superst soft water and that's a whole new environment for me now too.
It never stops and that's part of the reason I enjoy this hobby.

I am pleased to have been of some help. Your tank has indeed turned out VERY nice. Things should go smoothly from this point. A little weekly maint, easy peasey.

Yes indeed, nice work. From previous threads, the plants should fill out. I would try to get the flow broken as I suggested elsewhere, redirecting, something in front, etc. Otherwise, well done and good luck. And thanks for the confidence.

Byron.

I love the way it looks. I am in the process of getting my tank all together. I am waiting to add some more plants until i get my new light in next week.

Thank you everyone, I uploaded some more vids for demonstration for a different topic but you can use them to see more of the tank, higher quality vids! I believe I invested a lot of time and money into this tank, and I 'm still trying to work some little things out but overall I myself am very pleased and feel a sense of accomplishment.

I caught a few pics of the angels the other day, figured I'd share some. They werent taken with the promised canon which I decided to put on hold until the holidays, but with a new p&s.
The stripy is almost impossible to get a shot of, its always hyperactive when it see's me, the black ones are a little easier since they just go back to their lifestyle after a few minutes. I threw in one of the red wags as well!
Hope you guys (and girls) enjoy.
