Help Positioning Jets?
I have a 29 gal set up & two jets - finally added my fish 3 angels & a placo - the angels are getting pushed around by the jets.
I had them running this way: the Right one aimed left across the back of tank & the LEFT one aimed to the front (hoping for a circuit). This made it hard for the fish to eat, so I aimed them both downward a bit, but I still see the fish having problems as they swim they suddenly get caught in the jet flow. I also have a regular side mounted filter in the tank.
Any ideas are appreciated - I bought the tank used & do not have the jet systems in my other tanks, so a newb to them. Dunno if the fish will get used to the jets in time?
Angels (like discus) are very sedate fish that occur in very quiet still waters in the forests of SA. They live amongst plants and reed-like branches, hence their patterning which allows them to blend in. They will certainly feel more relaxed and "at home" in calm water.
I had to use the jet on my Rena XP3 rather than the spraybar, and I found it worked to position the jet at one end (lengthwise) of the tank and direct it toward the end wall. The wall disperses the flow across and down the wall and out into the tank so there is little current beyond the wall itself. See if you can achieve something like this. Another trick is to place a large piece of wood (perfect in angel biotopes) or even rock (inert, not calcareous) close to the filter outflow to further divert the flow.
I'll try that - appreciate the response.
