I have recently decided to try, for the first time, to breed cory's. I have two tanks that I can do it in. One is a 10G that is currently all cycled with normal parameters that is empty, or a 37G Tall that has some tankmates. The 37 has 5 swordtails, 5 cherry barbs, and 2 Pristella Tetras. I also have the choice to try and breed Juliis or Panda corys. My questions are:
Not always easy with some species. In general, you'll want a spawning tank (i.e., no other fish in it). Here's a link to Planet Catfish, check the info on each species in their "Cat-eLog." PlanetCatfish • the online home of aquarium catfishes
Fishyinpa had his C. panda spawn, he'll probably see this and comment.
I have bred Panda Cories successfully (or rather, they have bred themselves successfully).
I'm actually having trouble with my Panda Cories breeding too much.
My temperature is 75 degrees, dGH is 8, pH is 6.6-6.8. I have a few large caves (large enough for all of them to fit in) and some very thick mats of vegetation on the bottom and on one side of the aquarium. Sand substrate. I'm pretty sure I have 2 females and 4 males. I do one large water change once a week.
I would strongly recommend not putting them in with the other fish, particularly the swordtails and Cherry Barbs, both of which eat eggs and fry, and would probably go after the Panda Cory' offspring.
she..Byron,lol. but thas okay. My Panda Cories spawned themselves as well. I have very soft water, low gh/kh and neutral pH. Seems to be a great setup for spawning. I did lose 2 adults, one was the female. This was the only one female in my tank. So no more spawning here. Most of the fry were eaten, but 2 have survived thus far. They seem to be doing quite well, getting almost as big as the adults. The first 2 fry that survived getting eaten, did not grow quite right and did eventually perish. I have read that keeping the fry alive can be quite difficult though.
