Dawn - what is your opinion?
On dosing Strontium in a reef system. For many years the standard has been that it is not necessary, but i'm seeing some recent literature that says otherwise. Do you all dose your reef systems with strontium?
The amt used varied depending on type and quantity of corals. Never equal amt since each tank cant be same thus requires different amt .
Aa soon as test kits were avail, yes.
Soon after understanding the water chem on each reef set up, no testing needed.
Was able to make charts of test results in order to figure out amt and frequency od any additives dosing required.
One thing for sure , at least for me, corals settle, perked up and spread faster (newly arrived corals, 250 pcs at a time) when began using coral accel.
i dont believe in following mfr's instruction on frequency or dosage.
Like I said, should be determined by each reef keeper on their tanks according to their needs.
i have bottles of it but it is rare it will ever go into my tank. they say test first, then dose and if your not testing you shouldnt be dosing. this applies for all the traces. i do know a marine bio major that would dose his tank high in potassium. all his blues in his tank would outstanding for a good while. i do know now that his tank crashed, i cant say it was directly related to over-dosing without monitoring but it would not shock me.
