SA Dwarf Cichlid biotope film
For those interested in observing the South American dwarf cichlids in their natural habitat, I came across an excellent short film from AquaNet.tv at Aquanet.TV ? In den Zuflüssen des Rio Tapajos ? Kleine Buntbarsche
The commentary is in German, but even if you don't understand that, the photography speaks for itself and is incredibly good. The various species of Apistogramma and Discrossus are filmed in the Rio Tapajos, a southern tributary of the Rio Negro in Brazil. Females in full breeding colours are observed as they shepherd their school of fry through the vegetation. And it is important to note the thick vegetation in most of the sites, from aquatic plants, branches, standing trees and leaf litter. This is visual evidence of the type of aquascape for dwarf cichlids that I and others have frequently recommended.
The first few minutes show the landscape and tourists, but after that the camera goes underwater and the clear scenes of these fish interacting naturally is one of the best I have seen. Well worth viewing.
Another website i discovered which proved helpful was
This is generally helpful for those who'll set up their aquarium for the first time. It contains help in setting up fishes natural habitat.
