thinking of geting a dragon.
evening all :-D
i'm thinking about getting a bearded dragon,i have lots to read up on,
and costing to do.
just wanted to share my thoughts with you all.
i'll let you know how i get on.
Hey Willow, I know you've contemplated a dragon once before. Ready to finally take the plunge and get your fire breathing baby?? :-) I know nothing about them but of course I had to chime in to say that I expect to see pictures along the way...
oh i loved my dragon!!! they have such personalities....i oogle them everytime im in the petstore
funny thing is..is that i was looking at pictures of a couple of dragons, belonging
to a police officer the other day,and he was telling me all about his two........
and well you know how it goes:lol:
i have a tonn of stuff to look up as you know with anything you consider getting.......
although it's hard not to just go out and get one or two....however about the only thing
i know at the moment is that they need different heating and lights than my geckos do....
and as for the size of the inclosure.....i like to go big....so i have to think about where
all the stuff would go,i'm eying up a space in my living room that i'm sure as i look at it
it's more than four foot:-D so plenty room.
and i might be lucky enough to be able to give a dragon a forever home with viv included
if i re-home one, rather than fuel the pet trade,a pre loved animal needs TLC too.
just letting you know, when i was younger i had a dragon for a while and with the heat lamps it smelled SO MUCH, i went to school each day and each time i came back to a jiant turd. i loved him but he smelled, just make shure to keep windows open and be warned! another cool trick i learned is that once the beardie is in the tank for a while it will poop in the same spot over and over again, so put a paper towel where he poops so u can just pick it up with that paper towel. one last thing that i must say is DO NOT USE SAND!!!! you can use turf, reptile carpet, or what i did, go to home depo, get some tile that you like, get some grout, and have tiled floring in the cage, now isnt that a spoiled beardie. the only mistake i made was that i didnt seal the grout which probably led to the smell. not trying to lead you away but just warning
P.S. my beardy had to go back to the pet store due to the move that i made.
sorry you had to get rid of your beardie.
thank you for taking the time to share your experiance, and input is welcomed.
i own three leopard geckos, and the poopie side of things is indeed much easier
to clean up with them being on tiles, and using paper towel.
gosh.....i got the viv today, and it looks HUGE in my living room.
i only went out to buy live food and came home with a viv,
it's a four footer.
i have fish to transfer to another tank,as i will be shutting down a tank, and
moving the fish to the big tank, then the viv can take it's new home.
and light and stats can be put into place.
we went to the shops and this is what we got..............
the vivaruim is 4x2x2 f.
this light i was told does every thing i need it too,so i don't have to have a 4ft uv running
the length of the viv,and then a spot light too.
some of this...
got some of that......
and put it in to see what sort of thing i would end up with.(probably change it.
there are three vents at the back wall of the viv.and i have a stat aswell.
that man in the shop said i had to place the bulb outside of the viv and cut a piggin great hole
in the viv roof.........not impressed i tell you..........however talking to someone else,
they said.....no problem with it inside.
what do you think.
thanks for looking.
forgot the pther picture.
are u leaving the bottom bear? they need traction to walk around and something on the rougher side will sand their nails down so they cant claw you. i would also recomend cutting a whole in the tank because if your beardie magicly gets up there he can burn himself and also get to much uv exposure.
do u have a cave? you can make them with slate and they look "natural".
just letting you know, my beardy ate fake plants.
also they cant sense heat on the underside of thier belly so no undertank heaters!
