ok i wann make sure im understanding this right iv been readin so much im confused if i have a filter at the top sucking up junk pouring water back in and i have a under gravel filter thats blows air bulbs out the top vents does this mean i have to filters cleaning or i have one filter cleaning stuff and one filter just blowing air bubbles for fish to breath dang i hate being confused when it comes to stuff
Well a lot of people have gotten rid of there under gravle filters along time ago. But you would have 2 in a sense. You realy dont need them both unless you like the double filtering. I dont think the under gravle works that great for what i have. So i dont use them. You can run just that see how it works, Then run the other and see witch one works best. IMO.
lol i been running both for 3 months didnt knw they were to different ones but hey with the two oscars i got i mite wanna keep both going nasty little guys lol cool now i understand how my tanks stays so clean with these guys two filters no kidding i thot it was just some little bubble sytem hmm
If the ugf is working properly, it should suck the dirt into the gravel, making the water appear clean.
So your gravel bed, is working in the same fashion as a filter media pad would. (trapping dirt, a good place for beneficial bacteria to grow)
Although, the ugf, made my water look nice and clear, I got tired of seeing all the dirt that was removed during gravel vacs. Eventually, I chose to remove mine.
ohhhh i understand it all now its actually simple and good way i got it going thats why my pleco is obessed with the gravel and not the glass lol all the bacteria is down yea i will keep them both hes loving all the bacteria on the rocks lol
