Cory's

I got two new cories on Friday and they are so playful! I have them in a 10g tank with seven neons and they are just so amusing. They are always chasing each other around the tank and poking each other when they go snooping through the decor. When I was a kid I only had one at a time and didnt' get to see how playful they are. Do you think I could add two more in a month or so?

Yes definetly add more. They are schooling species. What kind did you get? Hopefully they are ones who stay on the small side so you can add some more. I have 3 different kinds of corys. :)

I believe they are c. solox? Or something similar. I can't remember what the guy at the lfs said. They look just like this http://www.planetcatfish.com/images/...as/solox/1.jpg

actually i should say they look a lot like. the dark area is actually more like a thick stripe in the middle of the body than a block at the back half. is there a more common species that looks similar? my lfs doesn't carry many rare items and I don't think those are very common

Hmm...how about this one?

Corydoras aeneus • Callichthyidae • Cat-eLog Image • PlanetCatfish

This is one that usually is seen at lfs's. Sometimes called bronze or something of the like.

If it is this one, they get up to 3" in length. So you wont be able to add very many more with the other fish you do have in there. Maybe 1. If you want anymore you will have to upgrade to a bigger tank.

Yeah that looks like them. How quickly do they grow? They won't bother the neons will they? I didn't realize they got that big.

fishyinpa 11-01-2009 09:39 PM

Nah corys are peaceful fish. If anything the tetras might bother them. From my experience they grow pretty slow. So I thinking adding 1 more may be okay, else maybe take them back for smaller corys. Or get a bigger tank. I am all for a bigger tank lol.

Oh I want a bigger tank but I don' t think that's going to happen unless we come across one used somewhere. I am trying not to spend too much money on fish stuff lol. As it is there is still a lot i want to do with this tank.

Do you think I could add a male betta to this mix after these guys settle in?

fishyinpa 11-01-2009 09:59 PM

Nah your tank is stocked. You can always check CL for your town, usually good deals on tanks there. If you find a nice tank and supplies with it hopefully, then you could give the 10 to a betta. He would be thrilled with all that room. Or you could divide and get two. :)

That's a good idea. Hopefully I'll see one in my price range soon :D

its hard because cories and neons are both shoaling/schooling fish and requires bigger numbers.
