8 Gallon Guppies mate
My tank is fully fish less cycled. Now I am planing to bring fish for it. After lot of research I like guppies they are very colorful and I also I like betta fish. But lot people experience says that they are not good companion. So can somebody suggest me some good fish which can go with guppies or betta. I am ready to go for one of them
I also wanted to know some active and colorful fish for my 8 gallon tank. I wanted to put maximum fish but different kind not single. I am confuse lot so please help me out
Can you first tell us what size tank is planned for the guppies? If its a small tank and you get both male and female guppies you will need to be prepared for the massive breeding they do. This fills a small tank quickly and requires some outlet or plan for the many fry. With guppies (or other live bearing fish), tank size is very important before considering tank mates.
If keeping a betta the tank should not be real deep, and the ideal tankmate for a betta would be a cory catfish... but it should not be added until a few weeks after the betta has been introduced. The 8 gallon tank would be ideal for those fish together, but I would not add more than 2 cory catfish to that size of a tank. The cory catfish will need a variety of foods. Betta pellets alone will not sustain a cory catfish. Shrimp pellets are a favorite of cory cats, and some bettas will eat them as well if they are soaked in a cup of water first so they are soft when they go into the tank. The catfish will then eat anything that falls to the bottom. That would make your 8 gallon pretty easy and fun to watch.
The best fish to mix with bettas are peaceful bottom dwellers who don't invade the betta's territory and who won't chase down and cause harm to the betta. Male betta spendens do not swim real fast because of their long fancy fins, so this is something that you should keep in mind when considering tank mates for one. The limit is 1 betta fish to a tank.
Once we know what size the other tank is then maybe we can all help you find suitable tank mates for your guppies.
My 8 gallon tank is rectangullar in shape not deep one
8 gallons is not going to be a deep tank, and is why I suggested it would be perfect for a betta and a couple of cory catfish as tank mates. That would fill the 8 gallon tank safely and leave you free to put guppies in your other tank (provided its large enough). I am very familiar with tank sizes and know that 8 gallons in any shape is going to be a shallow tank.
I saw you expressed a desire to keep both species of fish and figured that was an easy solution to offer you.
