Dried Seaweed

In the interests of diversifying my fish's diet, especially at work where I can't keep frozen foods on hand, I picked up some freeze dried bloodworms and dried seaweed sheets from the petstore. I tried the bloodworms out last night and both my betta and platys at work, and my tetras at home all went nuts for them. This morning I cut a sliver off the seaweed sheet and hung it in my betta tank.

He's going nuts for it. I really mean nuts. At first I thought he was just being pissy, he flared at it and went to town attacking it but now he's just chomping down on it as fast as he can. Same with my young platys, they're just all over it. It's like the seaweed's caused a feeding frenzy.

Yes, a lot of fish do relish nori.

I have some dried seaweed, but have never thought to use it in my betta tanks. I will have to give it a try.

just a tip, visit your local asian food market or store and find the same sheets of algae for a fraction of the price.

You can also order in bulk supply of 100 sheets of San Francisco Bay brand. I order these from Aquarium Supplies, Pet Supplies and Pond Supplies by That Fish Place - That Pet Place.

I bought a 3.99 pack at the pets store. It was there, I was interested, and I went for it. My fish are all small enough that a single sheet will last me quite some time. I've got 15. In a couple months I'll check a local market.
