convicts and plecos

is it safe to add a pleco to a convict tank?

Not if your convict cichlids start spawning and harassing them to death. I would advise against mixing any fish in your tank with the convicts assuming your group of convicts have both genders. Convicts do not wait for anything before they spawn. They breed worse than rabbits and can attack anyone in their path regardless of what they are.

I've seen people claiming plecos will work just fine because they are "armored" catfish. That's not the case. Even plecos have been attacked badly by a lot of belligerent cichlids, loaches, etc. They're not part of the exemptions in many cases contrary to what most people think.

oh i see...ive heard the same but i wasnt really sure. is their really anything that will do fine or co exist with convicts?

um, really big fish would work, a big oscar some huge eels, pretty much anything huge... or a huge tank.

If you are prepared to risk your other fish with the cons, that's fine otherwise I advise you strongly against combining any fish with them. The risk is there but it's really your choice. Size makes no difference. "Huge" eels, plecos and other cichlids cannot handle a very feisty pair of convicts but that depends although as I said, I am against doing it so it's up to you.
