swim bladder
:? hi
i have a cichlid who is holding eggs.i need to get her into another tank soon and have not really got time to cycle a new tank.
a friend has got a biorb 60 which used to house a couple of fancy goldfish.
these fish both seemed to die from swim bladder disease about a month ago.,but the water has been left in and the filter running.
would it be safe to put my fish in this tank?

That tank would no longer be cycled. Without fish in it to produce waste to feed the nitrifying bacteria the bacteria would die and you're back to square one. If it was possible to cycle a tank and keep it that way without adding fish or anything else we would all use that method but unfortunately it doesn't quite work like that. Bacteria need food too (in this case in the form of decomposing fish food and waste) and haven't had any in a month. I'd be willing to bet that the bacterial colony is dead by now and the tank might as well be brand new.

you can just take some wter out of the cycled tank and a cup of gravel and you should be good

if you have two filters, move one to the other tank, if not, add a couple handfulls of gravel and maybe an ornament to the other tank.
