When OLD fish become NEW FISH! - How I began!
... about 6 months ago I woke up from my ordinary boring life expecting an ordinary boring day but as I reached the bottum of the stairs that morning I noticed an old fish tank in the living room with not much to say about it except "MOM!!!! WHERE THE HELL DID YOU GET THIS OLD PIECE OF ****!" "What the hell are you going to do with this!" .. Turns out my aunt wanted nothing to do with her old tank and the three old goldfish that came with it.
For some reason my mother adopted it and some how I became " interested".
Now, my brother in law has a huge ( well over 100 gallons) saltwater tank in his house inside the wall! It looks fantastic with all kinds of coral reef and fish. He even has "some guy" once in a while check on the health and the tank or parts. This is where I heard fish keeping becomes ADDICTIVE! yea yea whatever you fish wierdos!
Back to my story.. .. I began setting up the little 20 gallon tank. There was barely any gravel, and a half working filter. Also, it came with 3 regular old goldfish. I set it up just for the sake of somthing to do, keep the fish alive, and make mother happy!
Well, I maintained that one pretty damn well for about 6 months! When ever I had down time at work I researched water clarity, filters, tank cleaning, yada yada yada! I began to have a hobby for fishkeeping.. actually it seemed more like tank keeping. I was really interested in the science of water clarity and overall tank health.
Well Here i am now! Just yesterday I purchased an old used 36 gallon bowfront tank. Spent HOURS cleaning and preparing the tank. My plans are to keep tropical fish in there but for now I have nothing in there except water, filter, heater, thermometer, and air rocks. I am going through THE CYCLE!
hope I dont become addicted! Thanks for reading and I will post pictures and videos soon enough!
Hello and welcome to the forum (im new too)
Fishkeeping is very addicting! It all pays off once you see your finished tank and people admire what you've done with it. Hope all goes well and props to doing the water cycle before stocking.

OK...I made my initial "welcome" statement... now on the serious side....as you are becoming aware... this forum and the people that inhabit it goes far beyond the "simple" cough ...cough:lol:... keeping of fish.. oh no.. this is far deeper than that.. this is about life.... lifes lessons... it's about the mere fact that we can take out door living enviroments and mimic ( some successfully.. some not so much) them in our homes... we create an living aqautic home for Fresh water, brackish, salt water fish and reefs and even land based reptiles... it's this, not the "simple" ( that mis leading word again) keeping of fish that draws us here...
^^ dude that's deep
