re. upgrading to 29 gallon
Hi again,

I have read on other posts here about making a tank a "ourami" tank. Do you think I could do that instead of getting any kind of middle swimming school? Someone said they had honeys, 3 female and 1 male. Since I have the one grumpy male dwarf gourami, I guess I would try him with ? 2 or 3 females. He has been alone for almost a year. I would then only have them and the cory cats.

There is no reason that couldn't work out just fine, but 1 suggestion... plant the tank heavily so the females have plenty of hiding places. Tall plants or floating plants work well so they break up the upper 1/3 of the tank where the gouramis need to come together to feed and hang out and still have the ability to claim their own territory and get away from each other. Gouramis can be aggressive, dwarfs are no exception to that rule. If all of their needs are met for decor and water chemistry, it sounds like a beautiful set up waiting to happen.

Please be forewarned that female dwarf gouramis (other than the honey and sunset species) typically have no or very little color to them. The standard blue and red dwarfs that we are used to seeing are males... their females are mostly silver, some get very faint markings. It can be difficult to find females of those species. Many lfs's don't stock them because there is not a huge demand for them due to their lack of color. I tell you this so you don't misake another male as a female and mix multiple males in the tank together. Multiple males in a smaller tank long term (under 40 gallons) are likely to fight until only 1 remains.
