Are my catfish sick?
My catfish have been in my 10 gallon for a few days now. I was just wondering if they are okay. I read that if the base of their fins reddens they could have fin rot. I will post some pics soon and hopefully someone can verify if my fish are okay or not.

I checked my ammonia and it was low. I just did a 30% wc hopefully that helps.

They have been like that since I have got them. Sometimes they do not look as red from certain angles. They are still very playful so that is one good thing.
And as for my ammonia level, it was barely above 0 so i did a water change and it should be basically 0 now.

Do you have any plants or caves for the fish to hide in? Just wondering, because I did not see any in the pictures. Some caves will help the fish feel more secure. You don't need anything fancy or expensive, some washed pvc pipe would work fine.

Yeah my tank is lacking places to hide. My roommate cut a hole in a plastic cup for the fish to swim through but it had some sharp edge so i took it out. I like the pvc idea. I am planning on getting a nice piece of driftwood and a couple plants soon. I was wondering could I put a piece of wood or a rock from outside in my tank as long as I rinse them off first? I just don't see why I should pay 20 bucks for a piece of wood that exist all over the ground.

you could collect wood, but you have to be careful, wood can leech toxins into your aquairum which will kill your fish. Also cory catfish are better on smooth small gravel or sand, because anything bigger or sharp wrecks their barbels.
