Totally confused about how bubbles produce more oxygen than trickling...
Hi Guys, I'm new and my name is Marcus. I'm sure this has been asked before but as a complete novice I'm not sure what to search for. This is my question:
My filter has two settings; Trickle and Pump. The trickle I have been told slowly recycles the water and adds oxygen to the water. The Pump settings also recycles the water but adds oxygen faster by creating a lot more bubbles in the water. I have been told by the owner of the store that the 'Trickle' setting is fine if I have less than 5 fish as the water will recycle and add oxygen at the top of the tank, in a 27 Litre (7 gallon) tank. I have 7 fish in my tank but they are small about 1 inch, so I was told to set the filter on 'Pump' settings so that oxygen can be created faster for all the fish.
I'm confused; how does adding bubbles affect the oxygen level of the water? The 'Trickle' setting has little or no bubbles but the 'Pump' setting has bubbles pumping out like mad (like you see in the fish store).
I should add that the 'Trickle' settings lowers the pump into the water. The 'Pump' setting raises it above water so it kinda splashes down creating the bubbles.
I would very much appreciate any help. Thank you.
P.s. Would the bubbles not scare the fish?

i dont know the answer to your main question but as far as the fish being scared of the bubble you dont need to worry. the fish will probably enjoy playing in the bubbles!!

from what i know when ever the surface of the water is broken is when o2 enters and co2 escapes.

MM is correct. From what I understand the bubbles create more surface area for the exchange to take place.

So, the bubbles filter is better than the trickle filter setting?

Yes it is, but oxygenation is aquariums is very rarely a problem. As long as you aren't overstocked in a tall tank you should be fine.

I know my fish spend more time over by the bubbles I have set up(mainly for looks) then anywhere else

their probably just amused with them which is why they chill around them all the time.
