help - setup 10 gallon with used equipment

My brother had a 15 gallon tall eclipse aquarium that was sitting in a pile out in the garage several years after he died. Trying to be frugal and yet upgrade my betta's palace I cleaned it up and tried to salvage it.

The glass was cracked on the bottom so I opted to replace the container with a 10 gallon hoping to use the hood / light / filtration system from the 15 gallon. Will this work? I never saw it setup up before. The PFE-1 marineland power filter will be resting on the bottom of the tank. Also it will be submerged - is that right??? Do I need a new canopy setup or will this work?

The silly pictures that are posted on Petco and such so tanks without the filter. Does anyone have a photo of what this is supposed to look like?

Thanks!

The stem of the filter is too long - anybody know where I can get a shorter piece? I don't think I can cut without breaking it.

Hi AliBaba, welcome to the forum! (love your user name!)
I wish I could help but without seeing a picture I'm lost too. Someone should come along shortly who can help. :-)
