When you do water changes, say...20-30% to bring down ammonia or what not, do you just put the water in the tank. Im assuming you treat it with dechlorintator and stuff, but what about the tempurature?
I have no need to change water right now, just curious. Thank you
I do water changes once a week. Depending on were you live you have to use dechlorinator. I use cold water from the tap and then add boiling water to it to heat it up. Don't use hot tap water as it contains heavy metals that are toxic to your fish.
we use a digital cooking thermometer to adjust the temp of the water we are adding, getting it the same temp as the tank.then add the correct amount of chlorout ..Prolly get one at wally world real cheap..
Due to the manner in which I accomplish WC's I have never needed to be concerned with the temperature of the tap water or RO water.
This thread reminded me that the instantaneous temperature change could be significant.
In order to calculate the water temperature due to an instantaneous decrease associated with a 25% WC the following equation can be employed (assuming an 80F tank water temperature):
Water Temp After WC = 60.0 + .25*T
where T is the temperature of the tap water.
I was surprised at the result of using 60F tap water (a 5F drop in temperature).
