Going to breed some more guppies!
So here is the story, I bought a male and female guppie about a month ago. Little did I know the female was preggo and ended up giving birth. I saved 16 fry (the drop and go method) and kept them in their own tank for about a week or so, till they got a littl bigger.

Now they are living in the big tank and theyre doing fine! they are rough n tough fish , as other fish (tetras) have died, they are still alive.

My male fancy tail is still alive, so tonight I am going to go buy 3 fancy females.

I got a 10 gallon tank, and then like a 3 gallon desk tank. Which would should I put the four fish in? Also, I have an assasin snail, would he eat the fry? The fry would be faster than him right?

wow congrats.i love guppies but i dont have the time to take care of them any more.i'm so jealous of you ...just joking.never had assasin snails in my tank but i did have a huge ghost shirmp in it together with my ribbon guppies.never caught him bullying them.he like to filter the out flow that comes out from the filter pipe.he's so cute like a gentle giant.

Yea, the first batch, my black guppies, are still tiny, but big enough not to get eaten anymore.

I am going to get some fancy tail guppies and breed those!!

Then, I will keep the ones I like and donate the rest, give them away!

That a good idea as the female will drop fry every 28 days or so and you can not keep them all. If you are going to breed them make sure you keep the nicer looking males. The females at the pet store might be pregnate already and it might drop for up to 6 months with out a male present so the males that you have might not be the father of the fry. When you get a drop keep the virgin females to mate with your nicer male. Keep only the healthy and nice ones. Get rid of the ones you do not want in your breeding stock. Fry that are deformed and are weak get rid of them. You can rehome your fish on craigslist. The older the female the bigger the fry drops. My female the fist time only had 25 fry the next drop she had 50. Keep the bigger females over the smaller ones for your breeding stock. Good luck with raising guppies. It can be alot of fun. If you really want to get a good stock for breeding try

I keep a lot of the babies too. Lately I have been selling my guppies to the LFS and they have given me roughly a dollar a piece for them. I t has helped off set the costs of my new larger tanks. Just a heads up it usually takes about 6 months for them to be fully grown. How often do you feed them?
