Seaclone Skimmer. Wrongly maligned?

I have a Seaclone skimmer that I've had for several months and I think it works great - no mods, no tweaks. I think it's been bad-mouthed because folks expect something from it that it wasn't designed to do. This is my opinion only, but I can tell you how mine works, and I think it works fine.

Most skimmers produce a dark, thick skimmate and I believe that most folks expect that on every skimmer out there. The Seaclone won't do that. It works differently. At least for me anyway, and I wouldn't attempt to modify it.

The sludge, fudge, gunk and other assorted gook accumulates on the sides of the riser tube and on the bottom of the riser tube where it protrudes under the cup. The bubbles don't very often reach the top of the riser tube and that's why there's only a small amt of liquid in the cup and it's not very dark.

After about a week, I have enough sludge and muck inside the riser tube to make a really nice sludge and peanut butter sandwich.

If you have a Seaclone, does yours work like mine? I'm pulling plenty of ugly stuff out of my tank, so I know it's working. It just works differently.

This is exactly the experience that I have had with the SeaClone. I did make a small modification to mine, adding a wooden airstone to the skimmer column. I found that the increase bubbles inside the skimmer caused the water level to rise slightly and the skimate to rise more easily into the collection cup.

For the record, my ASM G3 also accumulates a lot of thick skimate on the neck. Fortunately, it is very easy to remove the neck for cleaning.

I too added an airstone and it did increase the skimmate liquid. However, it didn't seem to pull out any more crud, plus it was a bit more messy cleaning the cup and gunk off the air hose. It's out now, but I might put it back.
