10 gallon tank setup, creaky floor
I live on the 2nd floor of an old house. The floor is extremely creaky with just about every step. It is also covered with carpet..so I am assuming it is wood underneath? I would like to set up a 10 gallon tank, but after buying everything I am now kinda scared about it! I am putting it on a dresser that can support my body weight easily (I weigh 135 lbs), but what worries me is that it is not perfectly level and the floor gives quite a bit. With my dresser full of clothes, if i push down on one end with my body weight, the floor gives somewhat and the dresser can move a little. Is it safe to fill up a brand new 10 gallon if there is a chance it may move/tilt very slightly?
i would be carefull, holding ur weight for a few mins is diffrent to holding a tank for ever
I know by experience that when a tank starts to sway, you have to be superhuman to catch it and steady it or just let it fall...so I wouldn't risk it! Even a ten gallon can tip like nothing.
Growing up at my parents house, I also lived in a very old house with creaky floors. My bedroom was also on the upper level. ( made sneaking in during the night nearly impossible! lol.)
With the weight of the dresser full of close, already putting a strain on the floor, it might be better to buy a stand for the 10 gal and place it in another area.
I know new 10 gal stands can be expensive. Do a local search on Craigslist, might find a used one for cheap.
