Dirty water

I have a 29gal tank that I finished cycling a few weeks ago. I have kept up with doing regular water changes (~5gal each week), but now the water doesn't seem to be clearing up. I did my routine 5gal water change a few days ago, and the water seems to be just as dirty if not dirtier than before. Any ideas what is causing this? Could it be the filter media? How often should you change the filter media?

I've had the tank for about 2 months now, but I bought it used from someone who had used it for about 2 months. So my guess is that the filter media is around 4 months old. I also decreased my feedings to once per day to see if that would help, but doesn't seem to be making any difference.

My tank is stocked with 8 zebra danios and 6 corys. I was going to add 1 or 2 cichlids or gouramis soon, but first I want to make sure everything is ok.

I agree with money...

just wanted to add two more questions to the mix

water parameters?
was the filter media in-use when you bought it? or was it sitting dry (like in a garage)?
