Sponge filter odor questions
I currently have 2 10 gallon tanks, both with sponge filters, and I know since they have no carbon there is no odor control. I do weekly partial water changes, so it really isn't *that* bad, but both tanks are in my small bedroom, so I was wondering if there was anything out there I could stick in the tank that would help out.
You could purchase a cheap Aquatech filter rated for ten gal. at Walmart and run some carbon for a couple days a week. Maybe alternate from one tank to another. Aquatech filters are quite reliable if one keeps the impeller assembly clean.
I have large sponge filters that get squeezed out in old tank water each week and stuck back in the tank. Can't say as I've noticed any smell to speak of. Don't try and wring em out too good though.
Thanks! Do you reccomend using the cartridge that comes with it, or removing it in favor of a small bag of carbon?
Either or would work.;-)
