Probably not my last possible stupid question
I'm cleaning my second hand marine filter as I want to use it in a freshwater tank. It has all three filter types. I know I'll have to change the pads on first two stages but the ceramics in the third stage will they be ok if I clean them in boiling water or should I replace them.
The only reason I ask is that it will cost about the same to replace the whole filter as it is to replace the media.
Cheers in advance
How are the ceramics contained? Also which of their filters did you get.
I can't say with 100% certainty how they do at boiling temperatures..
Perhaps a diluted bleach soak then followed by soaking in hot water then put it over night in a tub with a large dose of prime with the water to make sure the bleach is gone.
replace them. they are extra cheap. like 10 dollars for a good amount. they should not be reused. cleaning them is difficult and pointless in my opinion. they are very porous and its close to impossible to get whats hidden inside. i could better help you find good deals on them if i knew what type of filter it is. here is what i got for my 2 canister filters. 1500G Aquarium Bio Ceramic Ring w Filter Media Bag | eBay
