When I stir up the gravel from the bottom of my freshwater aquarium (20gal), the water becomes filled with tiny swimming threadlike things. Very tiny. Quarter inch or so long and thin as a hair. Wiggle and swim like a microscopic snake. What are they? How do I get rid of them?
Sounds like it may be planaria which are harmless but an indicator that maybe you're overfeeding. Some fish eat them. Vacuum the gravel well and cut back on your feeding. They should die off if there's not enough food for them.
OK Thank you.
I will be more careful with the feeding and clean up the gravel more often. Thanks again.
