fish tanks may be in jeopardy
so my wife used my water change bucket to mop the floor

she never blessed me w/ the knowledge of her actions and i just got done w/ my 2 tanks upstairs and was headed to the living room to top off the bigger tank

now i have 2 tanks upstairs one is a 15g w/ 21 baby cichlids in it, the other is a 10g w/ a mollie and swordtail

i rinsed the bucket before i added water like i always do but how can i be sure i dont loose all those fish??

the 15g had a 5 gal water change the bucket was rinsed then filled w/ dirty water then filled w/ water to replace the dirty stuff
then refilled again to top off the 15g and top off evap from the 10g

what % do my fish have to make it through???

whoopsie
with any luck, you will get away with it.
i reckon go buy another bucket, and do water changes tomorrow if you can.
i wish you the very best of luck.

Since you rinsed, I am guessing, there will be no harm done. Are the fish still acting normal?

SpyderMike 09-26-2009 03:16 PM

yea the fish are acting normal so im guessing im in the clear

i also did 50% water changes on both tanks w/ a CLEAN bucket

thanks for the replies

I hope everything turns out ok for you.

Did you ask her what she used for cleaner? Was it Bleach or Pinesol or regular detergent?
Yeah, water changes will help...
Are they still acting normal? No losses of any of your cichlid fry?

SpyderMike 09-27-2009 09:57 AM

she used murphys oil soap on the hardwood then rinsed and used ammonia on the kitchen floor

so far all the fry are still alive as are the other tanks tenants

Wow, that sucks. That's why I marked my bucket in black marker with "FISH USE ONLY". Hope your fish are ok.

Your fish will be fine if she was using a rather weak chemical solution and the buckets rinsed thoroughly prior to using them. You might want to start telling her which bucket to use and which not to. I'd put the labels too as Jeaninel rightly put it.
