New 30 Gallon
Ok so i just drove for an hour with my dad. Hadda drive to Cardinal, ON to pick up my new aquarium. It's 30 gallons. I go tit for 30$. I thought it was a good deal but I dunno anymore. It doesn't have a top or anything so yeah. It's in pretty good shape. Apparently it doesnt leak. They let it sit with water in it for 24hrs+ and said it didnt leak. It has this black electrical tape on it. the guy said it's prolly just to hide the corners. its sort of ugly. think it's safe to take off? also it has this blue paint on the back of the tank. what would be the easiest/best way to get it off without hurting/scratching the glass?

there seems that there used to be one of those LED strip temp things on it but was taken off. how would I get the glue off the tank? its very unsightly lol. its a little dirty but i think some hot water and a cloth and ill be able to get it all off. i know not to use like soap n stuff cuz that would be bad for any future fishies that will be going in right? :P

since i have nothing im going to need to find a decent filter for a 30gal tank, and gravel n stuff. how much gravel would i need for a 30 gal? i wouldnt mind getting sand or something since im planning on putting loaches [especially dojo loaches] in there and they like to burrow but im not sure if ill be able to find it here in town.

how much sand/gravel would i need for a 30 gal? :)

does anyone know a good DIY top i could try and forge, or would it be pretty easy to find a top for a 30gal tank?

also any advice or ideas for decor or fish are much appreciated :)

anyway onto the pics. ignore the messyness of my room lol
i havent got all my stuff up in my room yet so some stuff is lying around lol.

here is the glue [any idea on how to get it off? D:]

here is the paint [any idea on a safe way to get it off?]

hmmm, well first off NEVER believe anything a seller tells you thats just street smarts, i would def test it filled up with water OUTSIDE for at least a day, in pix #2 looks like there used to be one of those stick on thermos if this tank is made of acrylic is going to be realllll tough to get it cleaned up cause looks like your gunna need a green scrubby. as far as substrate goes use sand to protect your loaches, i have a great tutorial on here for using play sand and how to wash it properly ill edit it in after i post this. as far as removing the adheisive try razorblades. but i just dont trust that tape. as far as the pant goes only thing i can think of is trying to scrape it off.

ok HERE it is

i would use quikrite play sand as it is the cheapest. i personaly am planning on setting up a 55 gallon aquarium at my highschool soon with quickrite sand as the substrait.. im gunna put an oscar in it and its gunna be the class mascot.

well the seller said it was fine and so did his wife and kids
the aquarium was even still wet when i got there to pick it up
[its wet even now. you can see the water in some of the pics]

he said that the tape isnt really there for anything probably there to hide the corners
should i try taking it off or leave it on?
it doesnt go all the way to the top or bottom so its kinda ugly

i dunno what the tank is made out of.
when i tap it with my nails it sorta sounds like plastic
i unno lmao

i dont wanna leave it outside cuz i dont have a fenced in yard and id hate for someone to come around and steal the tank in the middle of the night

hmm think an exacto knife would work?
i dont have any like just razor blades only the things you put at the end of your razor lol

i need to go out tomorrow and look around at stuff and see what i can do. id love to do sand. my loaches will love it! <3
gunna hand out some resumes too

sucks not having a job and not being able to get some of this stuff D:

hmmmm, i looked on and they dont sell Quikrete Play Sand, but they have King Play Sand. would that be good?

KING - KING play sand 20kg - 13003020 - Home Depot Canada

its about 6.50$ for 44lbs of sand.

yay for being from Canada lol

MoneyMitch 09-25-2009 10:28 PM

thats perfect, just make sure to follow my tut or it will turn into a realllll headache unwashed sand is crazy bad for your water clarity.

Ramenuzumaki 09-25-2009 10:49 PM

i will!

i should only need 1 bag for a 30 gal [2" of substrate] right?

sharky 09-26-2009 12:07 AM

nail polish remover will help with the glue but use an old towel to get it off

Ramenuzumaki 09-26-2009 12:41 AM

not sure if i have nailpolish remover
would alcohol peroxide work?

sharkie chomp 09-26-2009 03:31 AM

I have this stuff called goof off. it would def. do the trick on the paint, but if your tank isn't glass it will prolly mess up the acrylic. and it's def. NOT goo gone.
