I have 32 Platy fry in a breeder box. There is excess food and waste on the bottom of the breeder box. Could I put a snail in there with them?
Any snail will just add to the bioload. I'd siphon off the wastes instead. A breeder box is too small. Do you have a spare 10g tank?
why would a breeder box be to small? I am not planning on keeping them in there. When they are bigger than the mouths of the other fish I have I will release them. They are already pretty big and will only take a few more weeks.
Uh, a breeder box would be to small because there's not enough room.
In my view, breeder boxes should be used to hold fish for a matter of hours before releasing the fry into a grow out tank that is cycled and has been prepared in expectation of fry. It's what livebearer's do. Could be someting as small as five gal, with healthy biological filter(cycled) and plenty of floating plants either real, or artificial. I would feed the fry vegetable or algae based flake food ,that was crushed to almost a powder three or four times a day. At around four weeks, They should be large enough to not be viewed as food by adult fish.
I agree a breeder box, is too small, get a 5 gallon tank, atleast...... I keep my fry in a breeder box for only like a day or two. Then if you moved them, then you could just throw away the watse. or you could just get a tank divider and divide your tank and give the fry some space
