New 8g Betta only tank (cycle with betta?)

Hey everyone I just set up an 8g curved front tank for a Betta only and maybe an African dwarf frog. My question is should I just cycle the tank with the Betta or wait?

Equipment
Tetra Whisper In-Tank with Chemi-Pure and bio sponge
Tetra 50w Submersible Heater

Plants
Echinodorus Amazonicus
Seachem Flourish tabs

Here is a pic of the tank already set up:

Agree. Just make sure you have a water testing kit, so you can keep ammonia and nitrites as low as possible.

Yeah I have API test kits for everything (pH, high pH, Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonia, Calcium, KH, Phosphate) since I have a nano reef.

I also went ahead and got a Tetra Whisper 10 air pump and put an airstone in the tank because I found the filter to not have proper aeration.

Also I forgot to ask about the plants, am I going to be fine with just Flourish tabs or should I also dose with Seachem Flourish Comprehensive? The Amazon's main source of nutrient is Iron so don't know if I should just dose Flourish Iron or the all in one.

Aside from the substrate(sorry), you have done a great job on such a small tank. I love the wood and you plant.:-)

Thanks! Yeah I know about the substrate but I have used it before and it just makes the tank too messy especially when I just have two plants in the tank so I figured Flourite tabs and dosing would make up for it.

use the all in one fert. it has everything you need in a fert and is already balanced. byron can itterate much more on this if he chimes in

yeah Byron will give you lots of advice in the form of 9872934128 paragraph essay ;D
im pretty sure hed also recommend the same as money since Byron is quite adamant on doing things the right and proper way and he knows his stuffz!

as for the tank, its looking cute for a little 8gal! <3
i like the wood!

not sure if i missed what types of plants those are, but if they are swords you probobly want to get some root tabs for them since they are crazy feeders. Money

P.S byron reccomended that i do the same with my own.

Yes, your plants are heavy foot feeders and don't take much in the way of nutrients from the water column. Byron will have to weigh in on whether or not he thinks you should use both tabs and Flourish Comprehensive. If it was me (and it's not!) I'd use the root tabs approx. every six weeks (breaking the tab in quarters, using 1/4 tab under each plant) and I'd dose with Flourish once a week, being very careful not to overdose as you have a small tank. In my smaller tanks I use 2 drops per gallon of Flourish.
What type of lighting do you have on this tank?

Your betta's gonna be one happy camper in this tank!
