75 gal 2 oscars (3.5") 1 sailfin pleco (8'')
1 oscar seems to have some sort of white fungus growing on his side fins. It's not spotty like ich but I may be wrong. I just caught it today did a good water change and added some salt. I think I may need to treat... what do you guys think melafix or kick ich or something else.
Any chance of posting a pic? Doing the water change was the right thing to do but in my line of thinking salt should never be added to a freshwater tank unless treating for ich, which this may not be. If it were me (and it's not!) I would keep a very close eye on the fish in question, stay on top of water parameters and you may find that this problem with this fish will right itself. I only resort to meds unless absolutely necessary and know the exact nature of the illness, injury or disease.
I can't get a detailed pic of what I'm speaking cause he's still small and my camera isn't that great. But it's white and it looks slightly fuzzy. I added the salt becuase he also lost 2 or 3 scales on one side but that's probably from the other oscar. I guess I'll do water changes ever 3 or 4 days for a week and if I don't see an improvement I bought Primafix today and will try that unless someone gives me reasonable advice to try something else.
It sounds like a bacterial infection, possible columnaris. You can read up on it here. http://www.fishforum.com/tropical-fi...es-8179/page2/
