i have a lot of green algae growth on my glass and now the rocks have brown algae on them and some purple(not as much as i would like) so is brown good and the green algae on my glass good, i think i just might have high phosphate levels. the whole thing on algae confuses me because its all so different.
You will always have to clean algae from the tank's glass. I do mine daily whether I can see it or not. Brown algae might be the sign of anew tank maturing. If your tank is new it could be a diatomaceous algae bloom. They take over but quickly use up the available food source and disappear. Purple algae that is good is coraline. It actually looks like rock, not algae. If you have a purple stringy algae that is not good. It is cyano.
ya ive had my tank set up for 2 months now and the purple is a hard crust on the rock
Well it very well could be coraline algea.
so is the bright green on the tank glass good ??????????????
Bright green on the glass is not good. I was just saying it's normal that we all battle it. It would be better if we never had to wipe the glass clean. I've yet to meet someone that does not need to clean it away at least weekly. If it is bright green and occurs rapidly after a cleaning, you probably have a nutrient rich system. Possible causes: to high a bioload, not enough filtration, bad lighting, not enough internal flow, heavy feedings.
