ammonia question.
 

My tapwater just tested at 1.0 ppm. Would using Prime in the water give me a different reading since it neutralizes the ammonia?

Wow, I am sorry dramaqueen. Is the ammonia in the water a new thing?
Wait for some more replies, but I believe you will get the same ammonia reading, that the Prime only detoxifies the ammonia.

That has been my experience with prime.

I never tested my water for anything before today. I decided I need to start testing for ammonia and so I tested my tapwater and it came up 1.0. At least Prime detoxifies it.

What are the ammonia levels in the betta tanks?

I just changed 3 of them today. All were at 1.0.

Do they still look nice and healthy?

I have heard of some people using a cycled filter, along with the Prime to treat the water. (using the filter on a large rubbermaid tub) Not sure how long it would take the cycled filter to remove the ammonia.

Yeah, they look fine and act fine. We haven't had any rain lately but I don't know if that has anything to do with anything or not. My tanks aren't cycled.

Maybe this is not a new problem and ever thing is fine with the use of Prime.
Has it been a while since you have tested the water from the tanks?
If you believe it is not a new problem, I would just keep doing what you have been. I would not be late on a water change, (not that you ever are) but any fish waste will turn into ammonia on top of whats in the tap.
So, in your situation, you may need to do even more water change than the normal recommended amount to keep the levels low.

I don't know if its a new problem with the water or not because I've never tested until today.
