Silly Little Plep...
...The monkey keeps swimming down the filter and he can't get back out again. Luckily he's done it every time either myself or my boyfriend have been here but obviously when we pull the filter out bits of waste and other things float around the tank which can't be good.
How can we stop it swimming down the vertical tube of the filter?!
It's the photo called biOrb tube if you don't understand what I mean as I am pants at explaining things: http://s161.photobucket.com/albums/t223/fluffin_fish/
I leaned this the hard way but plecs like water current and it looks like you have to many fish in there any way. BUT the way you can stop him from climbing in there is to glue a tiny piece of egg crate in top, Put a net on top, Or take out the aerator.
Im sure people will have other ways but thats just mine.
You did mean you pleco (sucker fish) right? And ya if thats a 5 gallon theres like 5 to many guppies in there if i can see right also it's to small for the plec.
We have 7 lampie tetra, 4 guppies, 1 plec and 1 swordtail.
Apparently 30L is 7.92516111852554 US Gallons.
How would we secure the net?
Well i don't know how good this would work (you wouldn't get the bubble affect) But you could just put it overr the top and put an elastic or something around it. I woulnd use egg crate thougth cause the spaces are bigger. And ya i think you have to many fish in there. The main rule is 1 inch per gallon. But not all at once like a 7 inch fish, lol.
the tank is still overcrowded, if its a common plec it would need at least 75 gallons, but for now attach a net there, my otos like sucking on the net to feel the water force.
It's a tiny plec. He's about an inch big which is 2.5cm for all you metric people out there. I know he grows to be huge, we'll either upgrade or sell him then :(
You can do a couple different things to keep the pleco out of the tube. The eggcrate can be used if you can manage to cut it but it will be apain. Their is fiberglass window screen that can be cut to a small square and pulled over the tube and secured with a rubberband. You can also see if your LFS has any of the tubes that can be put on the bottom of an uptake filter for UGF. That should fit right on there and keep all fish out of it.
looks like a rubber lip buts its realy hard to tell
you could go to petsmart or something and buy these filter media bags that are just like a net. Attach it to your intake tube and tighten it. That way the pleco wont get in the filter, but can also be near the water intake flow
