Advice needed-changing my mind about what to do

This is my first attempt at salt water tanks. I have a 100 g fresh water tank I have been building. I also ended up with a 29g and a 55 g I have started as salt water. To date, live rock and live sand , waiting for things to happen. Like 10 days. I was going to have 2 salt water, and keep the 100g fresh. BUT, what about converting the 100g to salt, using the 29 g as a sump, and a 55g fresh. I know, lots of money for a 100g tank, rocks etc., but I have set my mind to being slow, deliberate, and gathering as much knowledge as possible. I now am considering a 100g saltwater tank, and a 55g fresh. It is kinda scary, starting this big. Am I bitting off more than I can chew? I have learned a lot from this forum, and have brought several books, with more to come. I guess I have a plan, but I don't want to screw up. ADVICE welcome!
By the way, I am not exactly a novice, I had freshwater tanks back in the 70's. Just new at saltwater

salt and fresh are very different creatures. How far are you into the cycle? Have you been checking nitrite ammonia and nitrates? Also have you seen a diatom bloom?
