Will kuhli loaches get along with diamond tetras?
I have a 45 gallon tank that has six diamond tetras in it. Can I add kuhli loaches (true pangio kuhlii, if it matters)? The conditions are otherwise idea for kuhlis (substrate, temperature, current, pH, hardness, etc.), but I'm worried about the diamond tetras bothering them.
The diamonds are extremely active/aggressive when it comes to anything they perceive as food (stuff floating on the surface, dwarf shrimp--even though they're too big to fit in their mouths). Is there any chance they'll see the kuhlis as food?
I was thinking about adding six kuhlis and then, a few weeks later, another five or so.
So long as there are plenty of places along the bottom for loaches to explore and take refuge in they should be fine. They are in my expierience,a largely nocturnal species which frequent the bottom of the tank and are more active a dawn and dusk. With subdued lighting and dark substrate they may venture out during the daylight hours.. I have had four for approx two years now and they very much enjoy the two orchid planting pots that I broke in half and placed on the botoom. I have sand substrate and some driftwood arranged so that they can explore to their hearts content.
