New fish addition question
How long does it take for your tank to start showing increased ammonia/nitrites from newly added fish? I have been told that after you add fish you usually have a mini cycle. I added 4 Praecox to my tank on Sat morning, I have these already in my 29G:
9 Danios (will be going back once I get my Ram(s))
2 Honey Gouramis
I haven't seen any change in Ammonia or Nitrites both are still at 0 this morning. My tank is moderately planted and just wondering if there is any truth to the mini cycle in a planted tank.
There is a some truth to it, but it's not a written-in-stone rule.
You already have a moderate fish load for your tank, so your bio filter should be able to handle a good portion of the additional load.
In addition to this, plants also help ease the load.
I'll bet you never see a spike.
yeah with the proper amount of biological filtration you are unlikely to see any sort of spike. 1. the current bacteria will be able to handle much of the load. 2. the current bacterial colony of sufficient size that it doesnt take long for it multiply to the size needed to handle the additional waste. It would be one thing if you were doubling the amount of fish or something like that but thats not the case and I doubt you'll notice any sort of mini-cycle.
Depends on tank size, filtration(howmuch and type), and initial bio-load.
Thanks for the input guys or gals...it's always nice to confirm my thoughts with more knowledgeable people.
