Help Identify JD?

He doesn't look like most JDs. I'm almost positive it's a male, but is he a just a mutt?

He normally has vertical stripes, too. (you can see at the top of his body) but he hasn't had them since he was moved into his new home. Hopefully he will color up soon. I'm sorry about the cloudy water. It was only like that for a day.

Anyone?

Looks like a JD to me. Google Jack Dempsey fish under google images and see what I saw... :-)

The photos are all darker bodied. That's why I'm asking. He's yellow and pink.

it can just be his colouration. they all don't have to be the same colour.
Nothing wrong with a mutt :)

It doesn't matter to me, I love him the way he is. I just hope he makes it through this illness.
Was my sexing accurate? Does my fish indeed look like a male? I judged it on the cheeks.

one thing to remember, fish can be all kinds of colors but be the same species. i remember seeing a electric blue jd once dont know if it was natural but was crazy looking. when your trying to figure out the species look at the body shape and positioning of the fins. noadays patterns and colors are very very crazy!!

imo..it looks male to me. seeing how you moved him to another tank he could be stressed a bit causing him to look pale.

He colored up when feeders were introduced. He has been pink and yellow since I bought him though. When I say colored up I mean his stripes.

just make sure you give him a high protein pellet, i give mine hikari cichlid gold and tetra cichlid jumbo sticks. you could also try koi pond food from tetra. if your trying to get the most color out of your jd then give him as a treat once or twice a week : fresh shrimp (raw, uncooked, peeled) cut into little pieces...meal worms and nightcrawlers...veggies like peas (blanched and shelled), cucumber (no skin or seeds), fruits like white/green grapes or black cherries (no skin). you may have to try out different kinds of fruits/veggies before he'll let you know what he likes, these are some that mine will eat, your might have a different taste..lol hopes this helps.
