Getting rid of algae
 
I have a 5 gallon tank w/ one male beta. He is doing great, but his tank is overrun with algae! I have had him about 5 months and the algae problem is slowly getting worse. He is not by any window and I leave his light on for about 11 hours a day. I would like to add a snail, but I'm kinda worried about adding any new critters. Do algae removal products work? Are they safe for my fishy?

Algae remover chemicals do work, but it's really only a temporary solution....you need to find out what is causing your algae bloom....

what are your water parameters?

that will aide in figuring out the source of your algae
