I have a betta that's acting really weird. He stays at the bottom of the tank almost all the time, usaully on his side. When he does finally go to the surface for air it's like he's swimming through molasses. His color is fine, everything looks ok. What could be wrong?
What are the water parimaters?
Size of Tank?
Has he been moved Recently?
please state nitrite and nitrate levels as well, and dont forget temperature
if you have him in one of those small betta hotels or tiny tanks, you should remove him as fast as possible. put him into a good sized tank with some oxygen and that might help.....
hope this helps! :D
flatcam, i have had no experiance with bettas but if it as a lack of oxygen problem, wouldnt it be gasping for air at the top, not lying down at the bottom?
sorry for being off topic,
i know it is hard to believe but i actually read it wrong  :doh!:
i edited my post.... :D
do you have a filter in the tank/bowl
I don't have a filter or anything. He is in about a 1/2 gallon tank. I have several other bettas as well, and have never had a problem with lack of filtration. I just got this betta about two weeks ago. He is eating fine, I just don't know if he's a weird betta that will always do this or if something is wrong with him.
hmm, i would suggest you to get a betta starter bowl with filtration, a 2 gallon would be best with a heater. Your betta will love you for it. Now heres a good bit of information
Fish can Survive in a small bowl but they wont thrive in a small bowl.
I'll try it. What do I do if a larger tank with a filter doesn't help him?
