PowerFilter - Additional Carbon or BioMedia in Emporer 280?

I have an Emporer 280 (BioWheel power filter) that has an additional media container (#13 below) (after the traditional foam/carbon filter #14 below).

What are your thoughts with regards to placing additional carbon or bio media in this "additional Media" container?
Change frequency? for each (additional carbon vs. bio media ((almost never on the bio media?))

you dont really need carbon in your tank, i would suggest you cutting out a piece of foam and placing it in where the normal filter cartridges would go, that way you get more bio-filter and more mechanical filter without you needing to buy anymore

Additional carbon is unnecessary unless you have treated the tank with chems or meds. I change cartridges about every 2-3 months and clean them weekly. I, too, have an Emperor 280 in four of my tanks.

I would definitely go with the bio-media or depending on the type of fish you are trying to keep in the tank something to condition the water (peat, etc). I change out the carbon in my filters every 3 weeks or so. The bio-media is practically never changed in my tanks.
